Eurasia: endemic to the northern part of the Jordan River basin where it occurs in the Golan Heights and Jabal Duruz (Jebel Druse).

Morphologie | Morphométrie
Épines dorsales (Total): 2 - 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 7; Épines anales 2-3; Rayons mous anaux: 6. Usually silvery grey with a dark band running along the middle of the trunk.
Occurs in large dense populations, among stones and vegetation, in small ponds and streams. Feeds on plants and small animals. Spawns between April and June.
