Etymology: Triplophos: Greek, triplos = three + Greek, phos = light.
Eponymy: Captain Thomas Henry Heming RN (d: 1856) was (1898–1907) Commander, Royal Indian Marine Survey Steamer ‘Investigator’ from which the holotype was collected. He carried out soundings in the Humber estuary (1909). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Espinhos dorsais (total) : 0; Raios dorsais (total) : 10 - 12; Espinhos anais: 0; Raios anais : 53 - 67. Yellowish-brown in color, black on head and abdomen, fins colorless (Ref. 3991). Short trunk, long tail, anterior dorsal fin and short toothed of the maxillary (Ref. 37473).
