Etymology: Haplochromis: Greek, Haploos = single + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Teunis Ras was a ‘Dutch master fisherman’ honoured for the help he gave the Haplochromis Ecology Survey Team in Mwanza Gulf of Lake Victoria, and “especially for the pains he took in making the fishing gear and in teaching us how to use it.” (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
