Etymology: Chlopsis: Greek, chloea = green + Greek, opsis = appearance (Ref. 45335);  nanhaiensis: Named for Nan Hai, the Chinese name for the South China Sea where the holotype apparently was captured by commercial fishermen..

Radios blandos dorsales (total): 353; Radios blandos anales: 316 - 315; Vértebra: 120. Distinguished from its congeners by its bicolored pigmentation, dorsal origin approximately one eye-diameter behind gill opening and the low vertebral count [total 120 (118+, incomplete, tail regenerated), predorsal 12, preanal 35, precaudal 54] (Ref. 106145).
