Etymology: Garra: Name based on a vernacular Indian name (Hamilton, 1822:343, Ref. 1813); a fish living in mud (Ref. 128817).
Eponymy: No etymology is given by Hora, but perhaps named after Baboos Abhoya Churn Chowdry (fl. 1899), who was a scientific illustrator at the Indian Museum in Calcutta. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
