Common in estuaries and in association with Zostera and other vegetation. Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed (Ref. 12114, 12115). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Used in Chinese medicine (Ref. 12166).
