Etymology: Gadiculus: Latin, gadus = a fish, cod? (Ref. 45335).
Issue
Previously as a subspecies of Gadiculus argenteus Guichenot, 1850. Synonym of the latter in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Oct. 2012: Ref. 92135) followimg (Mercader & Vinyoles, 2008).

Ecology
Marine; pelagic-oceanic; oceanodromous; depth range 100 - 1000 m (Ref. 35388). Temperate; 72°N - 43°N, 32°W - 26°E
Northeast Atlantic: North Cape, Skagerrak to Bay of Biscay. Western Mediterranean (Ref.123983).

Maturity: Lm 12.0  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 15.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 3663); common length : 10.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 4645)
Over muddy bottoms. Spawns in spring. Important prey for several commercial fish.
