Etymology: Gadiculus: Latin, gadus = a fish, cod? (Ref. 45335).
Issue
Previously as a subspecies of Gadiculus argenteus Guichenot, 1850. Synonym of the latter in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Oct. 2012: Ref. 92135) followimg (Mercader & Vinyoles, 2008).

Épines dorsales (Total): 0; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 19-29; Rayons mous anaux: 11 - 16. Vertebrae 39-43. Dull with dark flecks on head and back.
Over muddy bottoms. Spawns in spring. Important prey for several commercial fish.
Oviparous, sexes are separate (Ref. 205).
