Morfología | Morfometría
Espinas dorsales (total): 11 - 12; Radios blandos dorsales (total): 17-18; Espinas anales 2; Radios blandos anales: 19. This species is distinguished by the following characters: no scales; 2 bones in the circumorbital ring, cirri on head numerous and complex; dorsal fin with more rays than spines; interopercle not extending posteriorly beyond its connection with the epihyal; ascending wing of the parasphenoid reaching the frontal; free dorsal margin to the upper lip; teeth restricted to a single series in each jaw, absent in vomer and palatines (Ref. 86957).
Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114).
