Description synthétique
Morphologie | Morphométrie
Épines dorsales (Total): 16; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 9-10; Épines anales 6-7; Rayons mous anaux: 8 - 9; Vertèbres: 26. This relatively elongated species which reaches more than 12 cm TL, is distinguished from all species except A. kaaygua in having a modal count of 12 pectoral fin rays; differs from A. facetus, cf. facetus, and guarani, by having modally 6 C1 gill rakers; differs facetus in not having an upwards directed mouth and a longer dorsal fin scale cover, covering bases of 7-8 last spines (vs. only 2-3). The same as A. kaaygua, it has yellowish ground color, but without the red corners of caudal fin (present in kaaygua, and also differs by being much less deep-bodied. Distinguished from all its congeners by pink to red dominant males (Ref. 74689).
