Etymology: Eustomias: Greek, eu = good + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335); danae: Named for the R/V DANA whose collections continue to advance knowledge of pelagic organisms and provided the only confirmed specimens of this species (Ref. 35801).

Barbel with a single thin, simple branch arising from stem; barbel stem and proximal portion of terminal bulb solidly pigmented; terminal bulb bearing a single, branched medial terminal filament dorsally at the tip (Ref. 45801).
