Comments |
Found in the continental shelf, and nearby islands. Commercial fishery: Blunt scalyheads are caught by demersal otter trawling on the shallow banks to the west between Cape Darnley and Mawson. Blunt scalyheads are taken by trawlers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) of the former USSR (Ref. 28912).The first catches of blunt scalyheads were recorded in 1990 when trawlers from the CIS landed 148 t (Ref. 28941). In the CIS blunt scalyheads are marketed as frozen fillets or headed and gutted fish. As of 1993, there were no markets for this species in Australia. Resource status: In the Antarctic waters, blunt scalyheads are probably not fully exploited. However, the total resource in these waters is likely to be small. Also Ref. 33047. |
