Known only from Lake Barombi Mbo (Ref. 52307, 81260), a crater lake in the rainforest; not recorded from inflow or outflow streams; this species is under threat due to overfishing and other socio-economic factors, the introduction of alien species (crustaceans and fishes), siltation and a reduction or loss of the allochthonous food supply of terrestrial plant material and invertebrates (both resulting from local deforestation), adverse water level fluctuation and water pollution (Ref. 26185).
