Known from the basin of the upper and middle Rio Orinoco. Collected from the the following localities: Banjo of Aripao, southeast of Maripa, drainage of the Rio Caura, a tributary of the middle Rio Orinoco; lower Rio Casiquiare near the village of El Niñal at the mouth of the Rio Pasimoni; Laguna Piranha (type locality) on the right bank of the upper Rio Manapiare (tributary to upper Rio Ventuari) a few kilometres downstream from the town of San Juan de Manapiare; lower Rio Atabapo; drainage of the lower Rio Autana; and Pozo Azul some kilometres north of Puerto Ayacucho (Ref. 114589).
