Type locality, Hakamagoshi, west coast of Sakura-jima I., Kinko Bay, Kagoshima Pref., Kyushu, southern Japan, NSMT-P 70853 (holotype of Laiphognathus longispinis, 3.25 cm SL, male). Reported from Honshu [Osezaki, west coast of Izu Peninsula (underwater photo, KPM-NR 27345); Osaka Pref.; Tanabe Bay and Kushimoto-cho, Kii Peninsula, Wakayama Pref. (based on underwater photos; KPM-NR 41933)]; Shikoku [Ehime Prefecture; Kochi Pref.]; Kyushu [Nagasaki Pref., ; Kagoshima Pref.]. Spawning season extends from the middle of May to the beginning of October in Kinko Bay, Japan (Ref. 75631) |
