Type locality, Pentecost River (Bindoola Creek junction), Western Australia, CSIRO H 2503-01 (holotype of Himantura dalyensis, 62 WD, juvenile male). Mainly estuarine and freshwater, from several large rivers across northern Australia between the Fitzroy (Western Australia) and Normanby Rivers (Queensland): Ord, Fitzroy and Pentecost Rivers (WA), Daly, Roper and South Alligator Rivers (NT), and the Mitchell, Gilbert, Normanby and Wenlock Rivers (Qld). Reported from mesohaline water (less than 30 ppt) but usually less than 10 ppt. Largest recorded specimen is 124 cm WD, but usually less than 100 cm DW (n=30); size at maturity is unknown with one male paratype adolescent at 88 cm DW, holotype juvenile at 62 cm DW (Ref. 76960). |
