Found only in the catchment of the River Chornaya whose estuary is located on the south-western coast of Crimea (Black Sea basin) (Ref. 75105). During summer, only about 10 km of habitat in the middle portion of Chornaya are left; water in the lower part is extracted in large quantities for irrigation, making this medium-sized stream almost dry in summer. Thus, this fish is likely to become extinct in the near future due to increasing water abstraction (Ref. 75105).
