Type locality, W of Cape Farquhar, Western Australia, 612-620 m, CSIRO H 2557-01 (holotype of Sinobatis bulbicauda, 42.9 cm TL; 26.1 cm DW, adult male). Known from the lower continental shelf and upper to mid continental slope of Western Australia from west of Gantheaume Bay (27°49'S, 113°01'E), northwards to Ashmore Terrace (13°25'S, 122°54'E), 150-1125 m (mostly 400-800 m) (Ref. 75174).
