Type locality of the holotype of Pachypanchax sparksorum: 'Bentainkilotra Creek' (Ref. 57724). Known from streams flowing into the Ankofia River and from its principal tributary, the Anjingo; occurrence in the Maevarano, the next drainage to the north, needs confirmation (Ref. 57724). Present in substantial numbers throughout its range but because of itsc circumscribed distribution this species is classified as endangered based on the criteria established by the World Conservation Union (Ref. 57724).
