Ranges from Arctic Alaska to Bristol Bay (Ref. 27547) and the Alaskan Peninsula (Ref. 10280). Occurs in the Alaskan Beaufort Sea being widespread and abundant in the brackish nearshore waters, but also found in the marine offshore waters (Ref. 28503). Enters lower portions of rivers (Ref. 10280). Formerly (and perhaps still is) used in coastal subsistence fisheries, especially eaten raw (Ref. 27547). Also Ref. 6876, 11366, 121277.
