Known from Se Kong, upper Nam Ngum, Nam Hinboun, Xe Bang Fai and Nam Theun of the Mekong basin. Reported to undergo upstream reproductive migrations in the mainstream and larger tributaries of the Nam Theun in large numbers that the rivers turn red. In the Se Kong, as elsewhere in Laos, juveniles often occur sympatrically with T. tambra (Ref. 35913). Also Ref. 30857 (listed as Tor cf. sinensis).
