Occurs in marine offshore waters of the Alaskan Beaufort Sea (Ref. 28503). Reported from the Aleutian Islands and the Gulf of Alaska (Ref. 6876). Type locality of Ophidium stigma: Kotzebue Sound, Alaska (Ref. 51665). Museum: 54 km to the northeast of Cape Gambell, St. Lawrence I., NMC 78-0322 (186 mm, male). 95 km to the northeast of Cape Gambell, St. Lawrence I., NMC 78-0323 (187 mm, female) (Ref. 27319).
