Known from the Mississippi River basin from Ohio and West Virginia to Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico, and from southeast Minnesota to northern Alabama and northern Texas; western Lake Erie drainage in Ohio and Michigan; isolated populations in Gulf drainages (Sabine River in Louisiana and Texas; Trinity and Colorado River in Texas; Pecos River in New Mexico) (Ref. 86798). Common throughout most of its range; rare in Gulf drainages (Ref. 5723, 86798). Type locality: Arkansas River, Fort Smith, Arkansas (Ref. 79012). Also Ref. 10294. |
