Known from the Río San Juan system (Ref. 81264). Type locality, interior basin of Llanos de Salas, Aramberri, Nuevo Leon, Charco de Palma, UANL 8281(holotype of Cyprinodon longidorsalis, 4.06 cm SL, mature male) (Ref. 26729). Considered as endangered (Lozano and Contreras, 1989) and species of special concern (Williams et al., 1989) (Ref. 26729). Also Ref. 12255, 27139.

Status of threat: extirpated in nature. Criteria: 1,5 (http://fisc.er.usgs.gov/afs/) (Ref. 81264).
