Known from Honshu northward from Ishikawa, Shiga and Mie Prefectures, discontinuously distributed in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Kyushu westward from River Nishiki (Ref. 41299). Recorded from Lake Biwa (Ref. 78994). Spawns mainly in April in Chikugo River (Ref. 46489). Status of threat in the 2005 Red Data Book of Shiga Prefecture : data deficient so caution needed (Ref. 79825). Also Ref. 1441, 43281.
