Reported as native from Lake George (Ref. 2, 21, 87, 164, 2060, 6316, 12227, 12657, 13046, 34290, 39939, 51885, 54836, 55985, 56123, 56137, 56140, 59157), where it is almost completely limited to habitats inshore (Ref. 364), and Lake Albert (Ref. 1739, 2060, 54836, 56123), where it occurs in inshore areas and in lagoons (Ref. 4903). Also known from Lake Edward (probably native)(Ref. 2060, 51885, 54836, 56123, 56137), where it occurs in bays, on exposed shorelines and at the mouths of rivers (Ref. 4903), from lakes Kachira, Mburo (Ref. 54860) and Isungo (Ref. 2), Kazinga Channel (Ref. 55985, 56140), and the rivers Mongedo (Ref. 2060), Ntotoro (Semliki tributary) and Mongello (Ref. 2). Known from tributaries of the Aswa River, where it is not certain whether it occurs naturally or has been introduced (Ref. 2). Introduced to Lakes Kyoga (Ref. 2, 4903, 13046, 56137, 58618), Nabugabo (Ref. 54860, 56070), Wamala (Ref. 4903, 56137), Salisbury (Ref. 56137) and Victoria (Ref. 4903, 51899), and from Lake Albert (Ref. 2, 56137) to dams near Teso (Ref. 2, 164, 56137).
