Comments

May occur along coastal and inland waters of the German North and Baltic Seas (Refs. 35387, 88187). Less than 30 individuals recorded from German rivers each year (Ref. 83311). Previously reported from waters around Helgoland and Sylt (Ref. 88716). In recent years, only single records have been reported from the Rhine, Weser, Havel and Elbe Rivers (Refs. 83311, 88172, 89634). The few individuals caught in the Rhine may also be strays belonging to French populations (Ref. 83311).

Historically known from the Kattegat eastward to the western and eastern Gotland Sea and its adjacent rivers (Ref. 89649). Rare in most parts of the Baltic Sea since the 1800s (Ref. 89650) and occurring only as strays (Ref. 89649). There have been recent records from coastal lakes of the German Baltic Sea (Ref. 83311).

Status assessed according to the latest national report for the habitats directive reporting period 2000-2006 was “unfavourable / bad” for the Atlantic biogeographic region (German North Sea) and for the Continental biogeographic region (German Baltic Sea) (Refs. 88151, 88160).

Regionally extinct in Schleswig-Holstein (Ref. 88198).

Critically endangered (visitor to the area) in Mecklenburg Western Pomerania (Ref. 88199).

Critically endangered in Lower Saxony (Ref. 88200).

Threats for allis shads in the North and Baltic Seas due to human activities: obstructions in rivers, fisheries, chemical pollution, eutrophication, restocking, technical installations, channel deepening, sediment removal (Refs. 26211, 89649). Also Ref. 12255, 27368, 33852, 36252, 83311, 88172.
