Known from Maeklong to Bang Pakong basins (Ref. 58784). Recorded from Chao Phraya basin (Ref. 28024); Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat and Kanchanaburi (Ref. 37773). Occurrence in the Mekong River and its tributaries (Ref. 9648, 37773) needs confirmation (Ref. 28024). Controlled reproduction for the ornamental fish trade (Ref. 6459). It is not clear whether the species still exists in the wild (Ref. 12217). Threatened due to habitat loss and overfishing (Ref. 58784). Also Ref. 26580.

Status of threat: Critically Endangered (Ref. 58784).
