Known from Maryborough, Qld. To Lake Hiawatha, N. S. W. (Ref. 7300). Museum: Moreton Is., Queensland AMS IB.523 (Holotype). Reported to be an excellent aquarium fish which has been bred in tanks (Ref. 2906). Adversely affected by Gambusia holbrooki (Ref. 48787).

Status of threat: endangered species due to sand mining and urban development that destroyed large areas of the habitat, resulting in considerable fragmentation of the range (Ref. 44894).
