Known to occur in the Chao Phraya basin (Ref. 27732, 33488). Reported from Maeklong, Mekong and Southeastern Thailand river systems (Ref. 26336, 123185); also from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Phrae, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nong Khai, Khon Kaen, Kanchanaburi, Prachin Buri and Surat Thani (Ref. 37773). This species was reported to be extremely common in central Thailand (Ref. 12693) but apparently is greatly reduced and may be nearing extinction (Ref. 33488). Known to migrate up small rivers and streams and out into floodplains. Begins to return to permanent waters in October with migration peaking in November and December (Ref. 12693).
