Ranges from Natal to St. Helena Bay. Common off the eastern Cape. Juveniles form huge schools in Algoa Bay and off adjacent areas. Caught by anglers, bottom trawlers and in Natal shark nets. Edible, but of no commercial importance (Ref. 12484). Also Ref. 244, 6580.
