Dorsal spines (total): 2; Anal spines: 0. Head large; the eyes very large; the snout bluntly pointed, its anterolateral margin incompletely supported by bone. Head ridges narrow, conspicuous but not especially spiny except over parietal and postorbital ridges; the underside of the head completely naked. Overall color is gray to gray-brown; the head covering translucent, the undersurface blackish and heavily punctate, especially around the mouth and gill cover; the fins dusky to blackish.
