Africa: Rare, captured in Nigeria near Lagos (holotype and paratype) and in the river Azumini (Ref. 2936, 86396).

Diagnosis: body depth 3.9x and head length 3x SL; 32 lateral line scales; lateral line reduced to 5 anterior scales; 11 anal fin branched rays; 14 dorsal fin branched rays; narrow, black longitudinal band interrupted above anal fin, extending from gill cover to middle of caudal peduncle (Ref. 2936, 86396).
