Dorsal soft rays (total): 4; Anal soft rays: 49 - 56; Vertebrae: 49 - 52. A relatively long forked caudal fin with upper lobe 1.4-1.6 times longer than lower lobe and a more convex snout when viewed laterally (Ref. 32835).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Found in very acidic (pH 4-5), tannin-stained blackwater habitats associated with peat swamps (Ref. 32835). Occurs in lowland stream and peat. Nocturnal; feeding on aquatic insect and smaller fishes (Ref. 57235). Feeds mainly on insect larvae. Probably non-migratory. Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5020   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00562 (0.00278 - 0.01137), b=3.00 (2.83 - 3.17), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.40 se; based on food items.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
