Etymology: Nimbochromis: Latin, nimbus = stormy, rainy + Greek, chromis, a fish, perhaps a perch; it has dark clouded melanic blotches on the body (Ref. 45335); fuscotaeniatus: Derived from the Latin "fuscus" = dark, dark brown, and "taeniatus" = banded, striped (Ref. 55922).

पृष्ठीय रीढ़ (सम्पूर्ण): 15 - 16; पृष्ठीय सौफट रेज़ (सम्पूर्ण): 11-12; गुदा कांटा 3; ऐनल सौफट रेज़: 10 - 11. Diagnosis: body relatively elongate with irregular, blotchy horizontal melanin pattern; no spots on pectoral fins; jaws large, with length of lower jaw 43.4-50.6% head length (Ref. 55922).

Widespread but uncommon (Ref. 55922). Usually solitary in shallow, vegetated areas and in the intermediate sand-rock habitat (Ref. 5595, 55922). Feeds on small fishes (Ref. 5595).
