Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

This species is distinguished from all western Atlantic congeners (except S. david) by the following characters: a higher number of vertebral centra, 138-150 (vs. 132-136 in argentina; 128-136 in guggenheim; 127-136 in occulta; 130-135 in dumeril; 121 in Squatina sp. NW1); differs from all southwestern Atlantic species and S. david in their dorsal coloration, with very few (<20) or no white circular spots (vs. dorsal surface of the skin having hundreds of white spots in argentina, occulta, david, guggenheim) (Ref. 117896).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00676 (0.00293 - 0.01558), b=3.07 (2.88 - 3.26), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  4.1   ±0.6 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Low, minimum population doubling time 4.5 - 14 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Very high vulnerability (79 of 100).
