Vertebre: 28 - 27. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the presence of an elongated dark spot along the middle caudal-fin branched rays, not involving the lanceolate plates at the base of
the fin; the spot is typically extended over equal number of upper- and lower-lobe branched rays and along more than two thirds of the ray length (Ref. 84367).
