This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: head with a much more intense and widespread red color, extending up to the humeral region (vs. limited red coloration and not extending to humeral region in georgiae, rhodostoma); horizontal black bar on the end of the caudal peduncle is never prolonged forward (vs. prolonged up to the anal-fin in georgiae, rhodostoma); anal-fin hyaline (vs. a black bar present on the base of the anterior part of the anal-fin, continuing obliquely on the branched rays in georgiae, rhodostoma) (Ref. 127081).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01202 (0.00548 - 0.02637), b=3.08 (2.90 - 3.26), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.0   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
