Issue
Last redescription and biology in Le Bail et al. (2000:260). Mitochondrial D-loop sequences used in a molecular phylogeny of Hypostomus and related genera by Montoya-Burgos and Weber (in press, fig 2; EMBL/GenBank AJ318362 to AJ318364). Biology: Seems to be the unique species of Hypostomus living in brackish waters.

Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 45.0 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 26543)

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); A permanent resident of esturial and littoral area (Ref. 90186); in coastal areas and brackish waters of the lower reaches of rivers. Can be caught along the banks with muddy bottom occupied by plants like Laguncularia racemosa, Avicennia germinans and Rhizophora mangle Ref. 35381). Benthic (Ref. 58302). As part of its reproductive behavior, excavates and creates burrows for egg laying (Ref. 82067).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01585 (0.00723 - 0.03476), b=2.96 (2.79 - 3.13), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Low, minimum population doubling time 4.5 - 14 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Moderate vulnerability (42 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
