Dorsal spines (total): 6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 18. Six oblique purplish-blue bands on each side of body, ground color of body silvery white. Gill cover and subocular region silvery. Upper parts of head and snout dark blue. Fins semitransparent (Ref. 27363).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Occurs on the continental shelf and slope. Identification of Notopogon species are difficult because body shape and development change with age and perhaps sex (Ref. 9563).

Estimates based on models

Preferred temperature (Ref. 123201): 11.1 - 16.9, mean 13.1 °C (based on 51 cells).
Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5315   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01479 (0.00600 - 0.03648), b=2.93 (2.72 - 3.14), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.4   ±0.5 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Assuming tmax>3).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
