Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Body depth 12-18% SL. Presence of a midlateral row of 10-17 (rarely 8-9) dark blotches along flank. Ventral adipose crest on caudal peduncle absent or less developed than dorsal one. Absence of row of small spots directly below midlateral blotches (if present, then most prominent between pelvic and anal bases). Dorsal origin above pelvic origin. Interspaces between midlateral blotches without dark pigmentation. Body above midlateral blotches brown with whitish to yellowish marbling or vermiculations. 10-17, rarely 8-9 dorsal blotches.

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

During daylight, adults are found burrowing into sand, sometimes in gravel on hill streams with clear water (Ref. 59043). Also found in moderate current with few plants at water depths up to 1.5 m. Have also been observed in large rivers (Ref. 59043). Spawning occurs in spring. (Ref. 59043). Population is locally threatened by habitat alterations (Ref. 59043).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5010   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00661 (0.00340 - 0.01283), b=3.11 (2.95 - 3.27), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species & (Sub)family-body (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Generation time: 3.1 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 2 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (tm=2; tmax=4.5; Assumed Fec < 10,000).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
