Etymology: Halichoeres: Greek, als, alis = salt + Greek, choiros = pig (Ref. 45335). More on author: Bleeker.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Marine; reef-associated. Tropical
Eastern Indian Ocean: Mentawai Islands and off southwestern Thailand.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 12.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 48636)
The male has a lined body pattern and the tail has numerous thin lines across. The female is almost identical to H. leucurus but has a white spot below the ocellus on the caudal fin base that is only shown in juveniles of H. leucurus, and yellowish lips (Ref. 48636).
