Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 30-37; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 22 - 27. Dorsal fin origin before anal fin origin; length of dorsal base to anal base ratio 1.2-1.6. Back convex and hull shaped. LS/Depth ratio 2.9-3.8. Height of caudal peduncle 2.9-4.4 x of its length. The form of the back and the position of the dorsal and anal fins clearly distinguishes this species from others in the same geographic zone.

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Possesses electroreceptors over the entire head, on the ventral region (except abdominal area) and the dorsal region of the body, but absent from the side and the caudal peduncle where the electric organ is located (Ref. 10011). Found in large rivers. Edible fish (Ref. 11970).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5312   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01318 (0.00612 - 0.02839), b=2.85 (2.67 - 3.03), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (20 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
