Etymology: Chrysiptera: Greek, chrysos = golden + Greek, pteron = fin, wing (Ref. 45335); kuiteri: Named in honor of Mr. Rudie H. Kuiter, Melbourne, Australia, who collected the holotype and for numerous valuable contributions to our knowledge of tropical reef fishes of the Australian-Indonesian region (Ref. 31106).

Adults inhabit flat or sloping sand bottoms with sparse coral outcrops (Ref. 31106), where they make burrows amongst rubble for nesting (Ref. 48636).
