Freshwater; benthopelagic; pH range: 8.0 - ? ; dH range: 10 - ?; non-migratory. Subtropical
Eurasia: endemic to and only native finfish of Azraq Oasis, Jordan, where it is presently in danger of extinction because of a recent lowering in water level.

In shallow water among vegetation and stones, or over muddy grounds. Its diet consists of insect larvae and crustaceans. The breeding season lies in the spring (Ref. 13609). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
