Solitary. Perches motionless on pectoral fins in a wide range of habitats. Commonly occurs on sandy bottoms or sand patches around rocky reefs and boulder and gravel strewn slopes. Is active at night, may bury in sand with only eyes and mouth protruding during the day (Ref. 5227). Pounces on passing prey.
