Marine; reef-associated. Tropical; 16°N - 15°S
Pacific Ocean: Micronesia, Gilbert Islands, Rotuma, Samoa. Recently reported from Wallis Island (Ref. 50537) and from the Philippines (Ref. 37603).

Adults occur in coral-rich areas of lagoon and seaward reefs from below the surge zone to at least 30 m, where they typically rest between corals, sides of crevices or shallow caves. Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114).
