soft rays: 8. Differs from its congeners in Vietnam by the following combination of characters: caudal fin with 9+8 branched rays, median incision in upper lip; lateral line complete; body with 7-13 bars, usually well contrasted; pelvic fin situated below unbranched dorsal-fin rays or in front of dorsal-fin origin; median caudal-fin ray 75.4-86.8% of length of upper caudal-fin lobe; caudal peduncle 1.3-1.6 times longer than deep (Ref. 40772). Anterior nostril found on the front side of a flap-like tube (Ref. 27732). Caudal peduncle length 5.3-6.2 times in SL, depth 7.3-8.8 times in SL; eye continuous with dorsal head profile or slightly protruding (Ref. 43281).
Seems to prefer fast flowing waters with stones and boulders (Ref. 27732).
