Freshwater; benthopelagic; potamodromous (Ref. 51243). Tropical
Length at first maturity / Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?, range 28 - ? cm
Max length : 50.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 43628); max. published weight: 2.0 kg (Ref. 43628)
This species is characterized by the following: length of rostral barbels 4.0-5.1% HL; lateral line scales 50-60; circumpeduncular scales 22-27; scales from the lateral line to the anal-fin origin 61/2-71/2 (Ref. 118635).
Inhabits relatively still waters and occurs in deep pools in larger rivers and in most low-country reservoirs. Feeds mainly on algae. Breeding in rivers is highly influenced by monsoon rains (Ref. 43628).
