Remarks Males with small agglomerations of a small number of rounded tubercles separated from each other located under the anterior-ventral margin of the orbit. All rays of the pectoral fin are of the same width and not thickened. No sexual dimorphism based on morphometric characters.

Diagnosis

Can be diagnosed by the following characters: trunk teretial; head conical, without

developed rostrum; pelvic fins located anteriorly from the vertical through the origin of the dorsal fin; approximately ten gill rakers on the first branchial arch; lateral line incomplete; black longitudinal band along the middle part of the body; small lobes of the bony capsule of the swim bladder, the lobes connected by the moderately developing manubrium; and lacking epural (Ref. 85843).
